A human chain was formed at Mukundganti, also the busiest part of the regional road (Sayedabad-Enayetpur) in Belkuchi upazilaof Sirajganj district on Thursday afternoondemanding establishment of a terminal for buses, trucks, CNG and Auto-rickshaws.

Hundreds of transports’ workers, owners and politicians took part in the demonstration to press home their demand.

The programme was organized by Islamic Shramik Andolon with Mohammad Asir Uddin in the chair, while the central organizing secretary (Rajshahi Division) of the organization Mufti Haji Sheikh Muhammad Nurun Nabi attended the event as chief guest.

Sirajganj District Islamic Movement President Maulana Abdus Samad, Organizing Secretary Shahid Amin, Sirajganj District Islamic Shramik Andolon President Bir Muktijoddha Ainul Haque and Belkuchi Upazila unit’s President Maulana Rezaul Karim, among others, spoke on the occasion.

Speakers said that, Hasina’s cronies had extorted money from the transport sector in the past. If anyone continues to do so now, they will be defeated in the national elections like DUCSU. Considering the convenience of workers and passengers, terminal should be built for all transport in the public-important Mukundagati area. This will reduce traffic congestion. The suffering will be eliminated. If the initiative to build the terminal is not taken within the next one month, a tougher movement programme will be announced.

Later, the demonstrators submitted a memorandum to the UNO demanding construction of terminals at the mentioned area.
