A pedestrian was killed and a shopkeeper critically injured after being hit by a speeding private car in Sirajganj Sadar on Friday (September 12) morning.

The accident occurred near Kashiahata Bazar on the Sirajganj-Kodda regional road.

The deceased, Hafizul, was a resident of Kashiahata village of the upazila.

The injured shopkeeper, identified as Amir, 42, was taken to Dhaka in critical condition.

According to locals, a high-speed private car coming from Sirajganj town lost control upon reaching Kashiahata area and rammed into Hafizul and Amir, who were strandedin front of a roadside shop. Hafizul died on the spot, while Amir sustained serious injuries. The vehicle was severely damaged in the crash.

Sirajganj Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mokhlesur Rahman confirmed the matter and said, the driver of the car had been driving in drunk condition after taking alcohol.
