Dr. Asif Nazrul, the Advisor on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, has alleged that human rights violations have been more frequent than protection during the Awami League government.

Asif Nazrul made this remarks at a consultation workshop on the amendment of the National Human Rights Commission Act 2009 and the draft of the National Human Rights Commission Ordinance 2025 at a hotel in Inani of Cox’s Bazar on Saturday afternoon.

The Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) organized the program.

At the time, Asif Nazrul said, “The interim government wants to leave a lasting example in protecting human rights. The utmost efforts will continue to ensure human rights in the spirit of freedom achieved with the blood of the martyrs of the July Uprising.”

In the workshop, Industry Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan said, “This National Human Rights Commission Ordinance, 2025 is very significant to come out of the darkness of the long 15 years era of disappearances, murders and Aynaghor. If this ordinance is issued under the power of the President, it will be possible to start the implementation process during the tenure of the current government.”

Among the significant changes in the draft ordinance is the power to give the Human Rights Commission the power to take independent action against government institutions and government employees. In addition, it has also included the issue of enacting a separate law to prevent disappearances and murders.
