A 5.9 magnitude earthquake was felt in Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Nepal and Bhutan.
The earthquake struck at around 5:11 PM on Sunday (September 14), according to Android Earthquake Alerts System, ready.gov.
The epicentre of the earthquake was at 16 km from Dhekiajuli, Assam, India.
The earthquake was felt across multiple regions of Bangladesh on Sunday, including in the capital, Dhaka, prompting public concern and swift monitoring by authorities.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department’s Earthquake Observation and Research Centre confirmed seismic activity had occurred, though full details — including epicentre, magnitude, and depth — are still being analysed.
Iqbal Hossain, an associate researcher at the Centre, told Jago News: “It is confirmed that an earthquake took place. We are currently gathering data on its origin and other parameters. A detailed report will be issued shortly.”
No immediate reports of damage or injuries have been received. Citizens are advised to remain calm as officials finalise their assessment.
