A 57-year-old village police member was allegedly beaten to death by his son following an argument over money from the sale of a buffalo in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia on Sunday night, police said.
The deceased was identified as Banez Uddin, a village police member and resident of Charuikuri village under Ramkrishnapur Union in the border area of Daulatpur upazila.
According to police and local residents, the incident occurred at around 8:45 pm when Banez Uddin’s son, Rajib, 30, demanded a share of the money from the sale of a buffalo. The argument escalated into a heated altercation, during which Rajib allegedly struck his father on the head with a steel flashlight.
Banez Uddin collapsed on the spot. Locals rushed him to Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex, but he died on the way near Mohishkundi Bazar.
Daulatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khaledur Rahman said police rushed to the scene after receiving the information and recovered the body.
The body was sent to Kushtia Medical College Hospital morgue on Monday morning for an autopsy.
A murder case has been filed with Daulatpur Police Station, and legal proceedings are underway, the OC added.
