Bangladesh Government Secondary Teachers Association (BGSTA), Sirajganj district unit on Sunday formed a human chain in front of Saleha Ishak Government Girls High School in the town to press home their five-point demand.

Teachers from different secondary schools and members of the association took part in the demonstration at 10:00am under the leadership of Taimu Hasan, Senior Teacher of Saleha Ishak Government Girls High School and General Secretary of the mention organization.

The teachers’ 5-point demands are: (a) Establishment of an independent Directorate of Secondary Education (b) Implementation of a 4-level hierarchy by upgrading the entry post of government secondary assistant teacher to grade 9 (c) Immediate preservation of the administrative and financial powers of the Deputy Director and protection of the independent status of all secondary offices (d) Appointment, promotion and posting to all vacant posts in schools and inspection units and (e) Order granting outstanding selection grades and time scales.

The speakers said that the teacher community has been neglected for a long time. Despite their important contribution in building future generation through proper education, they are not getting the respect and opportunities they deserve. They urged the government to take immediate effective measures by taking note of these aspects.

Headmaster (current charge) of Banwari Lal Government High School Khandaker Al Mamun, its Assistant Headmaster (Acting) Mohsin Noori, Senior Teacher of Saleha Ishaq Government Girls High School Jasmine Akhter, Assistant Teacher of Saleha Ishaq Government Girls High School Syed Maksudul Hasan and Senior Teacher Zahid Hasan among others spoke on the occasion.
