Police recovered the body of a youth a day after he went missing at Sherpur upazila of Bogura district on Thursday morning.

The body was found in Amai Danga Beel near Goaljani village under Sughat Union.

The deceased was identified as Nazmul Sarker, 15, son of Md Tojammel Sarkar of Kashiabala village under Mirzapur union in the upazila. Nazmul had been mentally challenged and suffered from epilepsy.

According to his family, he often wandered away from home and was occasionally restrained with a chain for safety.

Nazmul left home Wednesday afternoon after his chain was removed and despite extensive searches, his family could not locate him.

Later, locals spotted a body in the beel, which the family identified as Nazmul.

Sherpur Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) SM Moinuddin confirmed the incident and said that the body will be handed over to the family after legal procedures.
