Belkuchi Correspondent:

Allegation of beating a fifth-grade student at ABC Model School in Delua Kandi village of Belkuchi upazila in Sirajganj district with a wooden hammer has been raised against a teacher of the school.
According to the Children Act 2013 (Section 70) of Bangladesh, any physical or mental torture of a child is a punishable offense.
The incident has raised widespread anger and concern among students, parents and locals.
The accused teacher has been identified as Md. Sami. The injured student, Md. Radid Talukder, 13, was allegedly beaten during class over a trivial matter on October 13, 2025.
Following the incident, Radid’s father, Md. Khokon Talukder, filed a written complaint with the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and the Upazila Primary Education Officer seeking legal action.
According to the complaint, Radid was assaulted indiscriminately in the classroom.
Speaking to the media, the injured student said, “During class, a girl accidentally dropped her bag. She complained to the teacher blaming me. Without listening to anything I said, the teacher started beating me with a wooden hammer. He stopped only when I screamed.”
Another student in the same class confirmed the incident. Local resident Shahidul Islam, who first saw the injured student, said, “Radid came to me with visible injuries on his back. Incidents like this have happened in this school before. We demand proper justice.”
Rural physician Bulbul Islam, said, “In 2024, this same student was assaulted at this school. This time he was brought to me in serious condition. After primary treatment, I referred him to Belkuchi Daffodil Hospital to an orthopedic specialist due to his deteriorating condition.”
Radid’s father alleged, “In 2024, the headmaster Md. Mojibur Rahman Sarkar physically punished my son. Later, when he left for Umrah, his son took over responsibility and again assaulted my child using a hammer. Even after complaints, no justice was served — instead, I received threats. I want proper justice for the brutal assault on my son.”
Declining the allegation, ABC Model School’s headmaster Md. Mojibur Rahman Sarkar said, “I was abroad for Umrah during the incident.”
