A teenager named Bappi, 15, was beaten to death on suspicion of theft in the capital’s Mir Hajirbagh area.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at a house in the Abu Haji Mosque lane of Mir Hajirbagh. Police recovered the body and sent it to the Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy on Thursday.
The deceased Bappi’s home is in Kadamtala village of Sarankhola upazila, Bagerhat. His father, Md Shahjahan, is a rickshaw puller, and his mother, Parul Begum, is a factory worker, both of whom reside at Majibur Munshi’s house in Prem Goli, Dholaipar.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Asaduzzaman Jewel of Jatrabari Police Station informed that he was called in on suspicion of theft and died after being tortured for a long time.
The victim’s father, Shahjahan, said, “Even if my son committed a crime, they should have handed him over to the police after beating him. Why did they torture and kill him like this? I demand justice.”
Bappi’s elder brother, Md Parvez, said that his mother and Bappi work in a factory. At around 2am on Tuesday, three individuals named Kapshi Russell, Molla Shubho, and Moyna Shakib came to their house and took Bappi away. After that, he was labelled a thief and beaten to death.
