Members of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate seized around 4.492 kilograms of gold from a passenger at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the capital on Friday morning.
The estimated market value of the seized gold is more than Taka 4.5 crore, the customs department said.
Assistant Director of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate
Pradip Kumar Sarkar confirmed the incident on Saturday saying that: “Shahid Mia, a passenger of the US-Bangla Airlines (BS 346) flight which landed at the Shahjalal Airport at 8:41 am on Friday, was carrying the golds inside his
luggage.”
As the weight of the luggage he was carrying seemed unusual, the Customs
Intelligence and Investigation Directorate team challenged him. Aftersearching the luggages, the operation team found the golds and seized those.
“The seized gold has been deposited in the customs warehouse. Shahid Mia was handed over to the Airport Police Station at night, and a case was filed against him in this regard,” Pradip Kumar added.
