Bangladesh police have sought help from India to bring back Aktaruzzaman Shaheen, the alleged mastermind behind the gruesome murder of former Jhenaidah-4 MP Anwarul Azim Anar, from the United States (US) through Interpol.

The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) chief Additional Commissioner Harunor Rashid said this while talking to reporters at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after returning from Kolkata on Thursday.

Apart from this, the DB chief believes that the pieces of 4kg flesh recovered from the septic tank of Sanjeeva Gardens in Kolkata belong to MP Anwarul Azim Anar.

Mentioning that Faizul alias Siam, one of the accused in MP Anar’s murder, is hiding in Nepal, he said that efforts are being made to arrest him soon. Aktaruzzaman Shaheen, the mastermind of this murder, is in the United States. Indian government’s help has been sought to bring back him.

Harun said that Anar was killed in Kolkata on May 13. In this regard, a murder case has been filed in Kolkata as well as in Bangladesh.

“So far, three people have been arrested. Among them, the main killer is Amanullah alias Shimul Bhuiyan.

“The murder was planned in Bangladesh and carried out in Kolkata. We have gone to Kolkata to investigate the case. We went there to verify the information provided by the arrested accused and to see the digital evidence of the crime scene.”

He said that if the victim’s body or parts of the body are not found in the case, the investigation officer has to face problems in providing an inquest report, viscera, and medical report. If these are not available, it becomes very difficult to settle the case.

MP Anar murder: West Bengal CID will go to Nepal in search of killersMP Anar murder: West Bengal CID will go to Nepal in search of killers“We went there and cross-checked the information of the accused arrested in our hands. Apart from this, I verified the information of the arrested accused in Kolkata. We visited the spot along with Kolkata CID. We tried to match the information available from the accused,” said the DMP official.

He further said:  “We had requested the Kolkata Police to break the Suarez line and septic tank. MP Anar’s body parts were recovered from there. Indian police will inform about this after forensic and DNA tests. We initially assume that the body parts belong to MP Anar.”

Meanwhile, CID sources have informed that the forensic report will be available soon. After receiving this report, the detectives will send the flesh samples for DNA testing, the second step of the investigation. And for this, MP’s daughter is going to Kolkata, said the DB chief.

“Our investigation in Kolkata has been successful as we have got information from there,” he said.

The investigation into the case is being conducted by coordination of the intelligence information of the two countries and that’s why the results would be fruitful, he claimed.

Anar crossed the Darshana-Gede border into India for treatment on May 12. He stayed at his friend Gopal Biswas’s home in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.

The following day, he left to see a doctor at noon and was expected to return in the evening. However, a WhatsApp message from his phone to Biswas stated that he went to Delhi instead and would call if necessary.

Since then, he could not be reached by phone.

Eventually, the government confirmed his death on May 22, citing Indian police.

Meanwhile, West Bengal CID recovered around 4kg of flesh and human hair in a septic tank at Sanjeeva Garden of Kolkata on Tuesday. They believe this flesh belongs to the deceased MP Anwarul Azim.
