Barathli Union Parishad (UP) chairman Atomong Marma (51) died after being shot by miscreants in Rangamati’s Bilaichhari upazila in Rangamati district. He died on Thursday night after being under treatment for 9 days at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

Bir Uttom Tanchangya, Chairman of Bilaichhari Upazila Parishad confirmed the death of Atomong Marma. He said that Atomang was shot in several parts of his body including his arms and legs. He died in the hospital while undergoing treatment.

According to police sources, on May 21, Atomong Marma visited a relative’s house in Barathali Marma neighborhood of the same upazila. That night miscreants shot him. Later he was rescued and first taken to Ruma Upazila Health Complex in Bandarban. There he was taken to Bandarban Sadar Hospital with first aid. The next day on May 22, he was admitted to Chattogram Medical Hospital for advanced treatment. He died there while undergoing treatment.

According to related sources, the physical condition of Atomang Marma, who is under treatment, started deteriorating for some time. He died yesterday around 12:30 pm.
