A split between the index and middle fingers on left hand during the warm-up match against India has cast doubt over pacer Shariful Islam’s participation in Bangladesh’s opening T20 World Cup game against Sri Lanka.
The injury, sustained while attempting a save in the final over, required six stitches and immediate medical attention at Nassau University Medical Center.
Bangladesh’s chief physician, Debashish Chowdhury, has said that Shariful’s condition will be reassessed in two days to determine his recovery time.
This setback adds to the existing injury concerns surrounding Taskin Ahmed, who joined the squad despite a pre-existing injury, posing questions about his availability for the crucial first match.
Bangladesh’s struggles, particularly in batting, were evident in the warm-up match where they managed only 121 runs in response to India’s 182.
