Staff Correspondent:
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has initiated an investigation into the corruption allegations leveled at National Bureau of Revenue (NBR) official Matiur Rahman, an ACC official told reporters Sunday.
ACC Secretary Khorsheda Yasmin said a three-member investigation body led by a deputy director has been formed.
The decision to form the team was taken on 4 June after a social media post by Matiur’s son of purchasing a Tk12 lakh goat raised serious suspicions over the source of his wealth.
In the wake of the controversy, Matiur has been transferred to Internal Resources Division (IRD) of the Finance Ministry, but an ACC probe would still continue into the allegations of amassing illegal assets and money laundering.
