A man reportedly committed suicide in Uttar Wapda Band area in Tarash upazila of Sirajganj district on Saturday morning after receiving a divorce letter sent by his wife.

The deceased was identified as Moznu Parvez, 39, son of Abdus Sattar of the village.

Locals and police sources said that, Moznu had married Rokhsana Khatun, daughter of Abdul Motaleb of Binsara village in the same upazila about 25 years ago. After their marriage, two children were born in their house. But, he had been suffered mentally torture by his wife since the marriage. Due to his wife aggressive attitude, altercations over different trifling matters were the regular phenomenon in their family.

At one stage, his wife left him and went to his father house few days ago. Then, she sent a divorce letter to Moznu without taking the matter of their two children future on head. After getting the letter, Moznu broke down in depression and in consequence of the divorce, he committed suicide hanging himself from the ceiling of his room.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed M Monsur Ali Medical College and Hospital for autopsy, Jiaur Rahman, Officer in Charge of Tarash police station said.
