Abducted infant recovered after sale: 2 held

An eight-month-old infant, who was sold at Tk 80,000 after abduction from Ranotitha village in Raiganj upazila of Sirajganj district, was recovered by police from Talbaria village in Jashore district on Sunday night.
Police also arrested two persons in this connection. The arrested are: Kalam Sheikh, 40, son of Goldar Sheikh of Charkhaduli village in Dhunot upazila of Bogura district and Harun or Rashid, 44, son of late Roich Uddin of Kuriganti village in the same upazila.
Mohammad Asaduzzaman, Officer-in-Charge of Raiganj police station confirmed the matter to the media on Monday noon.
According to the confessional statement of the two arrested, police raided the house of Samiul Islam at Talbaria village in Jashore district on Sunday night and recovered the kid.
Earlier on March 30, the arrested Kalam Sheikh came to visit the rented house of the abducted child Dighi Moni (8 months) in Ranotitha village of Raiganj upazila of the district, and took away the kid after feeding her mother Mariom Khatun sedative with buttermilk (Ghol/one kind of liquid drink). Then, he sold the infant to Jashore.
A case was lodged with the Raiganj police station in this connection.
