The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate cases against Helal Hossain, 53, an alleged drug trader in Tarash upazila of Sirajganj district and his wife Shefali Khatun Khusi, 43, on charge of amassing wealth disproportionate to their known income.
The cases alleged that they acquired wealth worth about Tk1,14,55,457 out of their known income.
Shahidul Alam Sarkar, Deputy Director of the Pabna Integrated District Office, confirmed the matter to media on Wednesday (January 1).
He informed that, Assistant Director Sadhan Chandra Sutradhar filed two separate cases against the couple.
According to the wealth statements submitted to the ACC by Helal Hossain, also son of late Mozammel Haque of Ghorgram Purbapara area in Tarash Upazila of the district and his wife Shefali Khatun revealed that, Helal is possessing assets of Tk 26,42,073, which is inconsistent with the known source of income.
On the other hand, Helal’s wife Shefali Khatun has concealed the information about the acquisition of assets worth Tk 21,44,533. She is possessing illegal assets worth Tk 88,13,384 outside the known income.
Earlier, several news-reports were published on various media and Helal was arrested by RAB-12 with 138 grams of heroin and 29 pieces of Yaba from Dhopakandi area in Salanga Police Station of Sirajganj district on March 9 in 2022. He is now on bail.
