The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an inquiry into allegations of corruption against several individuals, including former state minister of Primary and Mass Education Zakir Hossain.
ACC Deputy Director Mohammad Akhtarul Islam confirmed the matter to on Wednesday (September 11), saying that inquiries have been initiated against Zakir, former Dhaka-18 MP Mohammad Habib Hasan, former MP of Bogra-3 Md Nurul Islam Talukder and former MP of Chapainawabganj-3 Mohammad Abdul Wadud.
The ACC official added that Habib faces extensive allegations of corruption and unethical activities through the abuse of power.
“He is accused of amassing illegal assets worth crores of taka in his name, as well as under the names of his wife and family members. It is reported that his family members have a property in the so-called Begum Para in Canada worth CAD1.55 million,” Akhtarul added.
Akhtarul also said that Zakir has acquired illegal wealth through corruption and immoral activities, including 10 decimal land markets on 3.28 acres of land in Kurigram’s Roumari.
“Besides, he has movable and immoveable properties worth Tk5,98,90,063 crore through banks and investments,” Akhtarul said.
According to ACC documents, Advocate Md Nurul Islam Talukder has acquired illegal wealth through misappropriating funds meant for various government projects.
About Abdul Wadud’s corruption, the allegations are also the same, the ACC documents show.
