The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has started an inquiry against former fisheries and livestock minister SM Rezaul Karim and former state minister for labour and employment Munnujan Sufian over allegations of corruption and misuse of power, officials of the anti-graft watchdog said Sunday (1 September).

According to ACC sources, SM Rezaul Karim has acquired illegal wealth through various anomalies and corruption by misusing his power while he was in office.

He has moveable properties in Nazirpur of Pirojpur and Dhaka.

As per the ACC sources, Rezaul swindled Tk25 crore in the name of buying machineries and organising training under the project ‘Livestock and Dairy Development’ while he was in charge of the livestock ministry.

The ACC has also found proof that Munnujan Sufian, her Assistant Personal Secretary (APS) and younger brother Md Sahabuddin, his daughter Shamima Sultana Hridoy and son of Munnujan’s sister Yasir Arafat Prithibi have made illegal wealth through corruption.

According to ACC sources, Munnujan has a five-katha Rajuk plot at Uttara’s Sector-10 and a three-storey house in Khulna’s Daulatpur under her name. Besides, she has two cars and a 16-katha plot at Mouthuri Housing in Khulna’s KDA area.

The ACC sources said members of Munnujan’s family have earned enormous wealth via recruitment, posting and promotions trade, which the anti-graft watchdog is inquiring.
