The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has asked the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to provide documents related to donations and grants made to Shuchona Foundation, founded by ousted prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s daughter Saima Wazed Putul, and the Center for Research and Information (CRI), associated with her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy.

A letter addressed to the NBR chairman was issued on Sunday, seeking several important records, according to ACC Deputy Director Akhtarul Islam.

In the letter, the ACC said there are allegations that Putul, as chairperson of Shuchona Foundation, misappropriated funds from the corporate social responsibility (CSR) allocations of various banks. Additionally, Joy, a trustee of CRI, and other members of Hasina’s family are accused of causing financial damage to the state by using public resources to further political agendas.

The ACC called for the immediate seizure and review of some key documents for the sake of a fair investigation.

The relevant NBR officials have been asked to provide the requested information by on Monday.

The anti-graft watchdog has formed a seven-strong probe team led by Deputy Director Monirul Islam to look into the allegations.

In March, the ACC filed two cases against Putul, accusing her of raising Tk 3.3 billion for Shuchona Foundation through “fraud and corruption” and securing the post of WHO South-East Asia regional director through irregular means.

Earlier, in January, the ACC filed another case against Putul and Joy over alleged concealment of information and abuse of power in the allocation of a plot in Purbachal.
