The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to file case against Saima Wazed Putul, daughter of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, on evidence of embezzlement of around Tk450 crore by opening Suchona Foundation in the name of helping the disabled.

At the same time, the commission has found the evidence of suspicious transactions of over Tk930 crore through 14 bank accounts.

ACC’s Director General (Prevention) Md Akhtar Hossain confirmed it on Monday while talking at a press briefing held at ACC head office in the capital.

The Director General said that ACC has found the involvement of 35 people, including former ministers-MPs, NBR chairman and other officials, and country’s top businessmen.

Three categories of people have been accused in this case – 11 members of the Board of Trustees of the Suchana Foundation, 8 such businessmen who donated to this foundation, and 16 officials of the Revenue Department who provided the necessary approvals for tax exemption, said the ACC.

DG Akhtar Hossain said, “The total transaction amount in Suuchanan Foundation through 14 bank accounts is Tk 930,97,73,959. Of this amount, Tk 447,95,30,193 has been embezzled.”

He also said, “This foundation had obtained registration from the Department of Social Services to work for the welfare of the disabled. But this money was embezzled without spending any money for their welfare.”
