The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has initiated an inquiry into an alleged embezzlement of Tk 22,000 crore in Covid-19 vaccine procurement, implicating a syndicate that includes Salman F Rahman, vice chairman of Beximco Pharma.

ACC Director General Akhtar Hossain confirmed the investigation while speaking to journalists on Monday.

Salman, the owner of Beximco Group and former private industry affairs adviser to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, was arrested following last year’s mass uprising led by students that toppled the Awami League government. He is facing multiple charges in separate cases.
