The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched investigations into allegations of misappropriation of public funds in the installation of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s statues and murals nationwide, reportedly costing several thousand crores of taka.

ACC Director General Akhtar Hossain informed reporters of the development on Thursday.

The commission will also investigate irregularities and excessive billing in the Mujib Killa construction, renovation, and development projects.

The allegations include non-functional deep tube wells and mismanagement involving the project director, contractors, and other parties, with losses amounting to thousands of crores of taka.

According to a 2021 report by the Police Headquarters, there were 1,220 monuments and murals of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman across the country.
