ACC to sue BIWTA chairman, 12 others

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to file a case against 13 persons including Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Chairman Commodore Golam Sadek.

There are also names of three leaseholders among the probable accused.

The commission approved the case on Tuesday in the light of the investigation report.

According to ACC sources, the case will be filed against them on charge of corruption and irregularities allegation. Aliaz Hossain, Deputy Assistant Director (DAD) of ACC will file the case as a plaintiff at any time. Apart from Golam Sadek, the accused are: BIWTA member Delwar Hossain, two Directors Abu Zafar Howladar and Wakil Nawaz, Additional Director Saiful Islam, Joint Director Zulfa Khanam, Deputy Director Mostafizur Rahman along with former three deputy directors Salim Reza, Kabir Hossain and Masud Parvez, contractors Ejaz Ahmed Sohag, Saif Ahmed Emon and Rafiqul Islam Khan.

According to the investigation report of the ACC, there was not followed any rules and regulations in granting leases to Aricha-Nagarbari, Kazirhat and Naradah river ports. In the two fiscal years 2020-21 and 21-22, the government has lost more than Tk 6.80 crore through leasing due to corruption and anomalies of the involved persons. The contractors in collaboration with the concerned officials including Chairman Commodore Golam Sadek were benefited through massive corruption and irregularities.
