A mobile court has fined a person Tk 20,000 in Tarash upazila of Sirajganj district for treating animals without any certificate or registration.

Tarash Upazila Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Nusrat Jahan conducted the drive at Desigram Bazar in the upazila on Thursday (June 19) afternoon.

The person, who was fined, is Shafiqul Islam, son of the late Sanowar Hossain of Desigram village in the upazila.

According to the prosecution brief, he had been providing medical services for a long time in the name of a veterinarian sitting in a drugstore at Desigram Bazar.

Executive Magistrate Nusrat Jahan said, “We have confirmed that, Shafiqul Islam had been providing treatment to various types of animals claiming himself as a veterinarian physician even though he did not have any certificate. He was caught red-handed during the drive. During interrogation, he admitted about his fault. For this reason, the mobile court imposed fine at Tk 20,000 against him. He was not sent to prison as he paid the fine immediately after issuing the order.

Replying to a query, Tarash Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Md. Aminul Islam said, “Shafiqul Islam was not able to show any certificate must for the profession during the drive. This is why, the Executive Magistrate has imposed fine. Such drive will continue in the future.”

Nusrat Jahan has joined at Tarash upazila as UNO recently. Just after her joining, she started drive against various grafts and anomalies in her jurisdiction that raises hope among the peace loving people in the upazila, locals said.
