Actor Siddiqur Rahman has been sent to three days’ remand in connection with the murder of furniture worker Parvez Bepari in Gulshan during last year’s July Uprising.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ziadur Rahman issued the order on Wednesday (September 3) after a hearing.
The investigating officer of Gulshan Police Station, Sub-Inspector (SI) Samiul Islam, had applied for a ten-day remand, saying Siddique allegedly organised the attack in front of Subastu Nagar Valley to disperse protesters and provide financial support for the incident.
Siddique is accused number 223 in the case, and the investigation requires questioning, arrest of absconding accused, gathering information on planners and financiers, and seizing weapons, he added.
Defence lawyers applied for bail, but the prosecution opposed.
After hearing both sides, the court approved a three-day remand.
Prosecutor Muhammad Shamsuddoha Suman confirmed the order.
According to the case statement, Parvez was shot by accused on 19 July 2024 during protests in front of Subastu Nagar Valley and later died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Parvez’s father filed the case with Gulshan Police Station on 2 July.
Earlier, on 29 April, Siddique was stopped by some youths on Bailey Road, beaten, and handed over to Ramna Model Police Station before being transferred to Gulshan Police Station.
