Addl SP Kafi suspended over killing, burning bodies

Abdullahil Kafi, former Dhaka district additional superintendent of police (promoted to supernumerary superintendent of police), has been temporarily suspended. A case has been filed against him in the Dhanmondi police station and one in the Hazaribagh police station for killing and burning bodies during the anti-discrimination student movement. He is currently on remand in these cases.

On Monday (September 9), Abdullahil Kafi was temporarily suspended in a notification of the Police-1 branch of the Public Safety Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Senior Secretary Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen signed the notification on behalf of the President.

The notification states that the former additional police superintendent of Dhaka district (promoted to the post of supernumerary police superintendent) Md. Abdullahil Kafi has been arrested in murder cases lodged under Dhanmondi and Hazaribagh police stations. Therefore, he was temporarily suspended from government service from September 3

The notification further states that during the period of temporary suspension, Kafi will be attached to the Barishal Range DIG office and will be entitled to subsistence allowance as per the rules. This order was issued in the public interest.

Mentioned that Detective Branch (DB) Police arrested Abdullahil Kafi from the airport on September 2. He is accused of being involved in the incident of killing and burning the bodies of students and general people during the anti-discrimination student movement in Ashulia, Dhaka on August 5.
