The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement (ADSM) has dissolved all of its regional committees across the country, retaining only its central executive body.
The decision was announced by the organization’s president, Rashidul Islam Rifat, during an emergency press conference held at Shahbagh on Sunday evening.
Rifat stated that the decision was reached following an urgent organizational meeting, where members collectively agreed on the suspension.
“With consensus reached in an emergency meeting of the organizational structure, we officially declare that all regional committees of the movement are suspended, effective immediately, except for the central committee,” he said.
He added that the future course of the movement and its activities would be decided through further discussions and announced in due time. The announcement comes amid growing activism by the student group around issues of inequality, justice, and civil rights.
