After Ruma, two banks robbed in broad daylight in Thanchi

Within 16 hours of the armed attack and looting of Sonali Bank in Ruma, two more banks in Bandarban were robbed in broad daylight in Thanchi Upazila. At this time they looted money.

Today’s incident occurred in the upazila’s Thanchi Bazar area around 12:30 pm, Thanchi Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Mamun said.  A group of armed men came in two vehicles and attacked the adjacent branches of Krishi Bank and Sonali Bank.

The manager of the Thanchi upazila branch of Krishi Bank, Hla Sui Twai said, they came and entered our bank in the blink of an eye and took everyone hostage. Then everyone was taken to a room and locked from outside. We still don’t know what they did to the bank. After seeing everything and we can say.

The manager of Krishi Bank could not give any idea whether the money of the bank was looted.

The manager of Krishi Bank said that the nearby Sonali Bank was also attacked simultaneously. However, no statement of Sonali Bank is known in this regard.

When asked about the incident in Thanchi, Bandarban Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Abdul Karim said, “We have received information that a bank was robbed in Thanchi some time ago today. We think yesterday’s group did it. No progress has been made in the investigation of yesterday’s incident.

Thanchi Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Mamun said, I learned that armed terrorists came to Thanchi market at noon and looted money from Sonali Bank and Krishi Bank.

He said I heard that 14-15 lakhs taka were taken from Sonali Bank. However, it is not known how much money was taken from Krishi Bank. There was no news of anyone being abducted from there.

Around 9 pm on Tuesday, hundreds of armed men attacked the Sonali Bank branch in Ruma Upazila Sadar. At that time, at least 20 people including bank officials and security guards were beaten up. The manager of this branch, Nezam Uddin, was kidnapped.

Those concerned believe that the mountain armed group Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) or Bomb Party is involved in robbery.
