A gang of dacoits looted three cattle after killing the dairy farm owner and injuring his grandson in remote Kawniar Char of Chowhali upazila in Sirajganj district on Tuesday night.

The deceased has been identified as Tara Mian, son of late Quddus Mian of Pashchim Jotpara village under Khaskawlia union of the same upazila.

Police and locals said, Tara Mian along with his grandson Ibrahim Khalil, 18, had been involved with farming and raising cattle in a makeshift house at Muradpur’s Kawliar char area for long. They also fattened few cattle with the aim to sale those in market ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha.

But, a gang of dacoits numbering from eight to ten along with locally-made weapons including choppers, machetes and iron rods stormed into the farm house and attacked them. At one stage, the dacoits beat up Ibrahim mercilessly and pushed him into a sack. Then, they tied the mouth of the sack and held him captive. Later, they strangled Tara Mian to death by suffocating him with a towel around his neck. After that, the dacoits took away three of the healthy cattle by a boat through the Jamuna river.

On information, Chowhali police reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the Shaheed M Monsur Ali Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy. Tara’s grandson Ibrahim was also admitted to upazila health complex in critical condition.

A case was lodged with the Chowhali police station in this connection, OC of the Thana said.
