Ashraful Islam Joy:

BNP standing committee member and former state minister for power Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku said that, in the last 17 years, the Awami League government has bankrupted the country in the name of development. Sheikh Hasina has turned the country into a crematorium by taking foreign loans and looting. The government that comes to power in the future will have to struggle to repay that loan.
He said these, while addressing as the chief guest in a public reception organized by BNP at Bahuli Bazar Union in Sirajganj Sadar Upazila on Tuesday (September 2) afternoon.
Party leaders and activists gave this reception to Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku as Bahuli Union has been included with the Sirajganj-2 constituency from Sirajganj-1 constituency.
Criticizing the Awami League, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku said, Sheikh Hasina has been in power for a long time and has destroyed all government and private institutions including the police and army. Democracy has been killed, freedom of speech has been snatched away. The hypocrisy that has been done in the name of electricity in the country is clear to the people today. We used to provide electricity to every house, but now the common man has to buy a card and use electricity. If you buy electricity for Tk 100, you get only Tk 70 service at the meter. In this way, the government is cutting the pockets of the people.
He alleged that the so-called development of the Awami League government in the last 17 years was basically a tool to fill the pockets of the corrupts. Thousands of crores of taka have been smuggled abroad in the name of mega projects across the country.
In Tuku’s words, the country is now plagued by a debt trap. The common man is burning in the fire of the prices of daily necessities every day when he goes to the market. However, the Awami League leaders are obsessed with luxury, forgetting the suffering of the people.
Regarding the reorganization of Bahuli Union, Tuku said that, he is committed to fulfilling the expectations of the people.
He mentioned that, if BNP comes to power, an accountable and transparent government will be formed, where the basic rights of the people will be ensured.
He also said, “We will restore democracy, stop electricity manipulation, and will not allow looting of the people’s hard-earned money.”
District BNP President and former MP Rumana Mahmud, General Secretary Saidur Rahman Bachchu and District Sechcha Sebok Dal Convener Abdullah Al Kayes also spoke at the time.
