A Dhaka court has granted a three-day remand to Abdus Sobhan Golap, Awami League’s publicity and publication secretary, in the case of the murder of Rubel, a garment worker, at Adabar police station in the capital.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan’s court gave this order on Monday.

After remand at 7 o’clock in the morning, he was produced in the court. After that, the investigating officer of the case applied for seven days’ remand. At that time, the accused party held a hearing seeking cancellation of remand and bail. After hearing both parties, the court denied bail and ordered remand.

On 25 August, Golap was arrested from West Nakhalpara of the capital. The next day, on 26 August, the court granted his seven-day remand.

During the anti-discrimination student movement, on 5 August, the agitators along with Rubel took out a protest march at Ring Road located at Adabar Police Station around 11:00 AM. Meanwhile, the police, Awami League and its wings opened fire on protesters. Rubel was shot. When he was taken to the hospital, the doctor in charge declared him dead. Rubel’s father Rafiqul Islam filed a case as plaintiff in this incident on 22 August.
