Two murder cases have been filed against Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif and more than a hundred others in connection with two deaths in Kushtia during the recent student movement.
A total of 119 people were accused in two cases. In one of these cases, Hanif has been made as the number one defendant.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kushtia Model Police Station Mahfuzur Rahman Choudhury said that two cases were registered on Friday night.
The plaintiff in the first case Lukman Hossain is a resident of Char Thanapara area of Kushtia Town. He is a tea seller. Luqman’s son Abdullah (13) was killed in a clash during the student movement in afternoon on 5 August. Abdullah worked at his father tea stall.
In the case, a total of 14 people including leaders and activists of Awami League and its front organisations have been named. Another 10 to 20 people have been charged as unnamed.
Among others accused in the case are District Sechwasebok League President Yachir Arafat, District Awami League Information and Research Secretary Rashedul Islam, Awami League leader and Kushtia Municipal Commissioner Dhiman. Mahbubul Alam Hanif is accused number one in this case.
Besides, Raisul Haque, an activist of quota movement and third year degree student at Kushtia Government College, filed another case in connection with the murder of jewellery shop employee Babu on 5 August.
Babu, son of Nowsher Ali was hailed of Shaldah area of Hatosh Haripur village of Kushtia Sadar Upazila.
In the case, names of 35 people including Kushtia District Awami League President also Chairman of Kushtia Zilla Parishad Sadar Uddin Khan, General Secretary Asgor Ali, Senior Vice President were mentioned.
Apart from this, the accused in this case are – General Secretary of Kushtia Sheswasebok League General Secretary Manab Chaki, Kushtia District Chhatra League President Atiqur Rahman Anik and Kushtia Government College Chhatra League President Ferdous. The OC said, no one has been arrested so far.
