Professor Ali Riaz, vice president of the National Consensus Commission, has said a national charter can be created based on consensus reached through discussions by resolving differences of opinion and through the formulation that charter, the nation can move forward toward desired state reforms.
He made the statement on Tuesday, at the beginning of discussions with the National Democratic Movement (NDM) at the LD Hall of the National Parliament.
Ali Riaz said their main objective is to reach the point of forming a national charter as quickly as possible.
The tenure of this commission lasts until mid-July. Therefore, he said, they hope to complete the initial discussions by mid-May, after which the commission will move on to the next phase.
Commenting that the dialogue has been initiated through this first phase of discussion, Ali Riaz said: “We may proceed with discussions step by step. We will consider how we can come to a common ground.”
Eight members of the party participated in the discussion, led by NDM Chairman Bobby Hajjaj.
Bobby Hajjaj said NDM agrees with most of the proposals of the National Consensus Commission and that they wish to view the reforms in a broader perspective.
