Agitating mobs including students and public on Saturday noon conducted vandalism and arson attack on a residential hotel in Sirajganj town centering an allegation of carrying illegal activities under the banner of hotel business.
After the incident, police arrested six persons including the hotel owner in this connection.
The arrested are Shahadat Hossain Sabuj, 29, son of late Azar Sheikh and Shahin alias Shamim, 35, son of Khalil Pramanik of Soyadhanghora village in Sirajganj town, Dulal Sheikh, 33, son of Nazrul Islam of Char Haripur village, Shimla Khatun, 25, daughter of Jakir Ali of Shiroil Colony, Shapla Khatun, 34, daughter of late Alim Hossain of Fakirpara village in Rajshahi district, Dulifa Begum Ankhi, 29, daughter of Dulal Hossain of Dakshmin Gotamari village in Lalmonirhat district.
Masud Rana, Officer in Charge (Investigation) of Sirajganj Sadar police station confirmed the matter to the journalists.
Locals and police sources said that, a group of agitating students in collaboration with local people stormed into the Arman Guest House at New Dhaka Road in Sirajganj town on the basis of an allegation that the hotel authorities have been carrying out prostitution business in the hotel for long. The agitating mobs vandalized furniture including cots, chairs and tables of the hotel and set mattress, pillow, bed-sheets and other clothes on fire after bringing those on street.
On information, life saving forces from Fire Service and Civil Defense and police personnel from Sadar Police Station reached to the spot and brought all the situations under control.
Later, police also arrested the six persons for their involvement with the illegal activities, police added.
