Anisul, 7 others shown arrested in separate Jatrabari killing cases

A court on Wednesday showed eight people, including former law minister Anisul Huq, former social welfare minister Dr Dipu Moni, and six others arrested in different cases lodged with Jatrabari police station over the murders that took place during the student-led July-August mass uprising.

The six other accused, who were shown arrested today, are- former social welfare minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed, ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s former private industry and investment adviser Salman F Rahman, former lawmakers Ali Azam Mukul, Abdullah Al Islam Jacob, Haji Mohammad Salim and former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sefatullah passed the orders as police produced them before the court and pleaded to show them arrested in the cases.

Anisul Huq and Salman F Rahman were arrested from the Sadarghat area on 13 August 2024, as they were trying to flee the capital through the waterways.

Dr Dipu Moni was arrested on 19 August from the capital’s Baridhara area, while Mukul was arrested from Hajaribagh area on 13 November.

Former lawmaker Haji Salim was arrested from the city’s Bongshal area on 1 September, while Jacob was arrested from the city’s Gulshan area on 30 September. Former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun was arrested on 3 September.
