Entertainment Desk:
After a prolonged delay, acclaimed filmmaker Kamar Ahmad Simon’s much-talked-about film Anyadin… (Day After…) is finally set to release in Bangladeshi theatres.
The film will be screened for seven consecutive days starting from July 11.
The film has already made its mark on the global stage, having been featured in prestigious film festivals such as IDFA, Cannes, Locarno, Sydney and Zurich, where it received international acclaim and recognition.
However, its local release had been stalled for years due to objections from the censor board.
Producer Sara Afreen stated that Anyadin… received a project grant from Sundance in 2014 and had its world premiere at IDFA in 2021.
Since then, it has travelled to major festivals around the world. Despite its success abroad, the film faced repeated delays in Bangladesh due to its political themes, which proved contentious in the local context.
Director Kamar Ahmad Simon expressed his frustration over the delay, saying, “Erasing a film is like disappearing its maker. Finally, that disappearance is coming to an end.”
With its upcoming release, Anyadin… marks a significant moment not only for the filmmaker but also for freedom of artistic expression in Bangladeshi cinema.
