Arrest warrants issued against Hasina, 262 AL activists in S’ganj

A court in Sirajganj issued arrest warrants against Sheikh Hasina, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader and 262 other activists in a case filed in connection with the murder of District Jubo Dal Vice-President Sohanur Rahman Ranju and BNP activist Abdul Latif, who were killed during the anti-discrimination student movement.

On Monday afternoon, Judge Sumon Kumar Karmakar of Sirajganj Sadar Amli Court issued arrest warrants against the accused.

Confirming this information, GRO Jewel Rana of the court and Additional Public Prosecutor Nasir Uddin said that, there are a total of 195 accused in the murder case of Jubo Dal leader Sohanur Rahman Ranju. Of them, 70 are on bail, while 125 accused including Sheikh Hasina are absconding.

On the other hand, there are 178 accused in the murder case of BNP activist Abdul Latif. Of them, 41 are on bail, while 137 accused including Sheikh Hasina and Obaidul Quader are absconding. The court has issued arrest warrants against a total of 262 people in the two cases.

Earlier, on November 10, 2025, the police filed a charge-sheet in the court accusing 373 leaders and activists of Sirajganj District Awami League including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, former Cabinet Secretary Kabir Bin Anwar, former MP from Sirajganj-2 constituency Habib-e-Millat Munna and former MP Jannat Ara Talukder Henry in the killing case of Sohanur Rahman Ranju and Abdul Latif.

Among others, District Awami League President Hossain Ali Hasan, General Secretary Abdus Samad Talukder, former Sirajganj Municipality Mayor and District Awami League Vice-President Syed Abdur Rouf Mukta, former Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman and Sadar Upazila Awami League President Riaz Uddin, Municipal Awami League President Helal Uddin, General Secretary Selim Ahmed, former District Parishad Chairman Shamim Talukder Labu, District Awami League Vice-President Advocate Abdur Rahman, former District Jubo League President Rashed Yusuf Jewel and former General Secretary Ekramul Haque are also remarkable.

According to the cases, Awami League leaders and activists killed Sirajganj District Jubo Dal Vice-President Sohanur Rahman Ranju, BNP activists Abdul Latif and Sumon Sheikh during the anti-discrimination student-public movement in 2024 (August 4).

In these incidents, Sohanur Rahman Ranju’s wife Mousumi Khatun, Abdul Latif’s sister Saleha Begum, and BNP activist Sumon Sheikh’s father Ali Sheikh filed three separate cases as plaintiffs.
