Agitating people of Shyampur village under Shialkhol union of Sirajganj Sadar upazila blocked Sirajganj-Nalka regional road near Shialkhol Baza’ar on Monday evening protesting to the vandalism, looting and arson attack on around 50 houses.

They also formed a human chain at that time. The demonstrators demanded arrest and exemplary punishment to the local union parishad member Ariful Islam Liton, who was the mastermind of the attack and violence.

Due to the blockade on the road for around an hour, scores of buses and trucks got stuck on the both sides of the road, causing immense sufferings to the commuters.

The agitating villagers told TDS that, a number of miscreants led by Shialkhol union parishad member Ariful Islam Liton, also former Organizing Secretary of local union Awami League, attacked Shyampur village, vandalized and ransacked about 50 houses centering a trifling matter on last Saturday morning. During the period, the attackers also set many houses on ablaze. In the incident, at least 30 people including women and children were injured. Four of them were also admitted to Shaheed M Monsur Ali Medical College and Hospital in the town.

On information, police and army personnel reached to the spot and brought the situation under control. More than one allegation in this connection has been lodged with the Sirajganj Sadar Police Station.
