Following previous allegations of assault and acid attack, a new case has been filed against Dhallywood actor Monowar Hossain Dipjol, this time accusing him of attempted murder. His associate, Md Faisal, has also been named as a co-accused in the same case.

On Thursday, victim Abdul Majid and Rasheda Akter, lodged the case with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate M Mizbahur Rahman.

After recording the complainant’s statement, the court directed the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to conduct a probe into the allegations.

Earlier, on 8 July, Rasheda Akter had filed another case against Dipjol and Faisal, accusing them of physical assault and an acid attack. At the time, the court assigned the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to investigate that case.

The accuser’s lawyer, Kaiyum Hossain Nayan, confirmed the developments.

According to the complaint, on 4 September, while Rasheda and her husband were away for work, a group of 10 to 12 of Dipjol’s associates allegedly broke into their home, vandalised property, and looted cash and gold ornaments worth around Tk 50,000. A rape case was also filed in connection with the incident, alleging sexual assault on their daughter.

The couple later claimed that Dipjol and his associates had been pressuring them to withdraw both cases.

As per the case statement, on 1 November, Abdul Majid went to a restaurant near Jatrabari Police Station for a meal, where two of Dipjol’s men reportedly lured him away. He was then taken by CNG to a building in Shanir Akhra, where he was allegedly threatened and assaulted to force him to drop the cases.

When Majid refused to comply, he was beaten with iron rods by Faisal and others, leaving him seriously injured. Dipjol allegedly pressed a pistol to his forehead and attempted to shoot him. Majid reportedly pleaded for his life, promising to withdraw the cases. He was later rescued by his wife, Rasheda Akter, and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.

The victims further claimed that when they approached Jatrabari Police Station on 3 November to file the case, officers there refused to record it.
