The bail hearing of 263 former members of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), accused under the Explosives Act in connection with the 2009 Pilkhana mutiny, has been postponed once again.

The hearing and witness testimonies were scheduled for Thursday (April 10) at Dhaka Special Tribunal-2, presided over by Judge Md Ibrahim Miah.

However, due to the judge’s illness, no proceedings took place.

Defense counsel Advocate Parvez Hossain confirmed the development. “The hearing for bail and witness testimony in the case involving 263 accused was set for today. However, like on previous occasions, the proceedings were adjourned due to the judge’s illness,” he said. “Repeated postponements are raising concerns and suspicions among the public about the transparency of the process.”

Earlier, on January 19, the same court granted bail to 178 former BDR members who had been acquitted by the lower court, as no appeals had been filed against them in higher courts.

The case stems from the tragic events of February 25–26, 2009, when a mutiny broke out at the then-BDR (now Border Guard Bangladesh) headquarters in Pilkhana, Dhaka. The uprising resulted in the brutal killing of 74 individuals, including 57 senior army officers.

Despite the gravity of the incident, legal proceedings continue to face significant delays, frustrating both the victims’ families and those awaiting resolution in the judiciary.
