The interim government has renamed the country’s only wholly-owned satellite as Bangladesh Satellite-1, dropping “Bangabandhu” from the original name.

The Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology issued a notification in this regard on Monday.

The notification, signed by ministry Deputy Secretary Md Rafiqul Islam, said the chief adviser has approved a proposal in this regard. Earlier, the advisory council decided to change the name of the satellite in a bid to cut unjustified links with the Sheikh family.
