Bangladesh Bank has lifted a ban on banks and non-bank financial institutions (NBFIs) that stopped them from freely using their dollar funds for employee registration and participation in overseas training, seminars, and workshops.

The Foreign Exchange Policy Department of the central bank published a circular in this regard last week.

A senior official of the central bank said as the dollar crisis began to intensify, in May 2022, restrictions were imposed on bankers from sending registration and participation fees for training, seminars, and workshops. At the same time, restrictions were also imposed on bankers from going abroad.

However, as the dollar situation has improved, in January this year, restrictions on attending training, seminars, and workshops abroad by employees of banks and financial institutions to enhance the skills of bankers were lifted.

In that continuation, now the restrictions on payment of registration and participation fees for these training, seminars, and workshops have been lifted, said the official.
