New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner has said Bangladesh has the ability to turn the tables on any given day.
“It’s a team we’re not taking lightly for sure,” Santner said in the pre-match press conference on Sunday.
“We know we’ve got to be on, and on these big events, they can upset any team on their day. So hopefully it’s not us.”
Bangladesh has evolved into a more well-rounded side over the years. Once known primarily for their spin prowess, they now boast a formidable pace attack.
Santner acknowledged this growth, singling out key bowlers who could make a difference.
“I think they’re a very good team at the moment. They’ve always had the spin department covered, but now they’ve got some very good quick bowlers coming through,” he noted.
“Taskin’s done it for a long time now, and the Fizz [Mustafizur Rahman], we know how good the Fizz can be. And they’ve got some, you know—Rana—some quicks coming through.”
Santner stressed the importance of executing their plans efficiently, especially in batting-friendly conditions.
“We have to wait and see what the wicket does,” he said.
