In the Global Terrorism Index 2025, Bangladesh has ranked better than Pakistan, India, and even the United States. With a score of 3.03, Bangladesh holds the 35th position, improving from 32nd place in 2024.

The index was published yesterday by the Sydney-based research organization, the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP).

The index is based on the situation in 2024, and IEP reviewed data from 163 countries for its preparation. It reveals that Burkina Faso, in West Africa, remains at the top with a score of 8.5. Pakistan follows in second place with 8.3 points, while war-torn Syria is in third with 8 points.

Apart from Afghanistan, which is in the 9th position with a score of 7.2, no other South Asian country appears in the top 10 of the index. Bangladesh’s neighboring countries, Myanmar and India, are in the first 15. Myanmar is in 11th place with 6.9 points, and India is in 14th place with 6.4 points. The United States holds the 34th position with a score of 3.5, one rank behind Bangladesh.

The report states that, in 2024, the risk of terrorism in Bangladesh was lower than in India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Sri Lanka and Bhutan hold the best position in South Asia with a score of zero. However, Nepal ranks 68th with a score of 1.1.
