Sports Desk:
Amid escalating protests in Nepal, the Bangladesh national football team has safely returned to Dhaka on a special Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) flight. The team departed Kathmandu at 2:30 pm local time on September 11, 2025, after being stranded due to the unrest.
Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan has been in continuous communication with relevant authorities to ensure the team’s safe return.
The team had traveled to Kathmandu for two international friendly matches, but following large-scale protests that erupted on September 8, the scheduled match for September 9 was canceled. The closure of Tribhuvan International Airport also led to the cancellation of the team’s return flight, forcing the players to stay at their hotel.
The Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Youth and Sports took swift action to facilitate the team’s return, with the Armed Forces Division arranging a special flight to bring the players back to Bangladesh at the ministry’s request.
