A Bangladeshi national was killed in firing by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) across the Shibganj border in Chapainawabganj. The incident took place in India on the other side of Wahedpur border of upazila last Sunday night.

Local UP member Abdul Alim confirmed the matter on Monday afternoon.

The deceased Abdullah (35) is the son of Nazrul Islam of Nishipara, Paka Union, Shibganj. Abdullah and his family used to live in Narayanpur Union of Sadar Upazila.

However, the BSF has not officially said anything about the death of a Bangladeshi citizen in the firing.

Locals said that some people including Abdullah went to India on Sunday night for smuggling. Abdullah was killed by BSF firing there. His companions fled. Abdullah’s body was taken away by the BSF.

Lieutenant Colonel Moniruzzaman, the commander of 53 battalion of BGB, said at around 9:30 in the morning on Tuesday, “I got news of Abdullah’s disappearance after going to India. His wife came to us. However, the news of his death could not be confirmed. I have asked the BSF. They have not said anything so far.”
