Bangladeshis storm the streets, condemn Israel’s genocide in Gaza

People from all walk of life in Bangladesh—students, activists, and ordinary citizens—have taken to the streets in powerful support of the “World Stops for Gaza” campaign, demanding an immediate end to the Israeli genocide in Palestine.

The protest activities included strikes at educational institutions and workplaces, as well as demonstrations in Dhaka and other districts.

On Monday, university students in Bangladesh announced a peaceful strike in solidarity with Gaza by refraining from attending classes or participating in academic activities.

Dhaka

As part of the campaign, Dhaka University suspended classes and exams, and university offices were closed from 9am to 11am on Monday.

Students from various schools, colleges, and medical institutions, along with the public, gathered at the TSC (Teacher-Student Centre) of Dhaka University (DU) to begin the protest. As of the writing of this report, the protest is still ongoing.

During the protest, students and the public called for a boycott of Israeli products and urged everyone to unite in the fight to make Palestine independent.

They shouted various slogans such as “Naraye Takbir, Allahu Akbar,” “We want to fight, we wan to live by fighting,” “Muslims of the world, unite and fight,” “One, Two, Three, Four. Israel no more,” among others.

Meanwhile, officials and employees from various organizations staged a protest march on Monday at the Science Lab intersection in the capital, denouncing Israeli aggression in Gaza.

Carrying placards and banners with slogans like “Free Palestine” and “Stop Killing in Gaza,” the protesters marched peacefully.

While the demonstration caused some temporary traffic disruptions, the situation remained under control due to the presence and efforts of law enforcement.

As of 12pm, protestors were still seen marching in the area. Each procession began at the Science Lab intersection, moved past the Bata signal, and headed towards Shahbagh.

“We’ve taken to the streets today as part of the ‘The World Stops for Gaza’ campaign,” said one protester.

Meanwhile, alarge-scale demonstrations were held by ordinary Muslims in the capital’s Baitul Mukarram and Paltan areas on Monday.

As per prior announcements, people from all walks of life gathered from noon on Monday, holding anti-Israel banners, posters, and placards.

A brief rally was held at the northern gate of Baitul Mukarram, where participants called on the international community to stand against Israel.

Additionally, after the Zuhr prayer, more protests were planned by various organizations, including Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, on the same issue.

Savar

Students from various educational institutions in Dhamrai, Savar staged a protest on Monday, denouncing Israel’s renewed aggression in Gaza and expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people. Locals also joined the demonstration.

Gathering near the Dhaka-Aricha highway, they marched through key areas while chanting slogans.

Protesters condemned the killing of civilians, including women and children, and questioned the silence of the global and Muslim communities.

Meanwhile, Jahangirnagar University (JU) has also expressed solidarity with the global student “boycott of classes and exams” campaign.

On Monday, the university observed a work stoppage in all offices from 10am to 12pm. Additionally, all educational activities will be suspended on Tuesday.

The announcement, signed by Acting Registrar ABM Azizur Rahman, confirmed these actions as part of global solidarity with students protesting the violence in Gaza.

Jessore

In Jessore, thousands of people gathered to protest Israel’s attacks on Gaza, chanting “The blood debt of millions of martyrs, Palestine Palestine.”

The rally, organized by “Students and People of All Walks of Life in Jessore,” began at 11am at Dhatatna Bhairab Shaheed Square.

Participants, including students from local institutions like Jessore University of Science and Technology and Government MM College, marched through the city’s main streets, drawing attention and support.

Speakers, including writer Benzin Khan and Rashed Khan of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, condemned Israel’s actions, accusing it of committing genocide against Palestinians.

The rally ended with a call to boycott Israeli products in solidarity with Gaza.

Narsingdi

In Narsingdi, students and the public took to the streets in a mass protest.

From 10am to 1pm, around 10,000 people joined the demonstration.

Protesters gathered at the city’s Education Square, and the rally, which included students, teachers, parents, and professionals, marched through the streets, passing the Narsingdi Press Club and reaching the Jail Road intersection on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway.

Around 11:15am, protesters blocked the highway, chanting slogans demanding justice and an end to Israeli attacks.

The protest also called for a boycott of Israeli products and justice for the atrocities in Gaza.

The demonstration ended at 12:30pm when the protesters left the highway.

Mymensingh

In Mymensingh, a large protest rally took place to condemn Israel’s genocide in Gaza.

The protest, organized by the city’s people from all walks of life, began at the Town Hall intersection. Protesters held placards denouncing Israel’s brutality and raised their voices against the ongoing violence.

Rajbari

In Rajbari, hundreds of students and citizens gathered at the Goalanda Bus Stand on the Dhaka-Khulna highway at 10am for a human chain and protest march. After the human chain, the protest moved along the highway to the Upazila Court ground, where a prayer was held for the victims of Israel’s attacks on Gaza.

Protesters called for a boycott of Israeli products and united global Muslim action to end the genocide in Gaza and Rafah. They also expressed their willingness to fight for the protection of Muslims and condemned Israel for its continued violence.

With calls for unity, they vowed that if any Muslim is harmed, Muslims worldwide would rise in solidarity, with the assurance that Allah’s support is near.

Tangail

A protest march and rally in support of Palestine was held in Tangail at 11:30am on Monday from the Tangail Press Club.

The procession passed through the city’s main streets and ended at the Shaheed Minar.

The speakers emphasized the urgent need to rescue Palestinian Muslims and end the Israeli oppression.

They called for the boycott of Israeli products by all citizens of Bangladesh.

Rajshahi

Students and locals in Rajshahi held a protest on Monday condemning Israel’s brutal attacks on Palestinians and expressing solidarity with Gaza. Participants included students from Rajshahi University, Varendra University, Ruet, Rajshahi College, and others.

Chanting slogans and offering prayers, they demanded an end to the genocide in Gaza and criticized the silence
