Barrister M Sarwar Hossain on Thursday said he would no longer serve as the lawyer for 15 army personnel accused in three lawsuits of enforced disappearances.
Speaking to reporters, Sarwar said he himself had earlier filed a complaint with the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) against one of the 15 arrested personnel. His position as the defence lawyer has been compromised, the barrister suggested.
On Wednesday, Sarwar, a retired major, attended the hearing session at ICT-1 on behalf of the 15 army personnel. After the hearing, the tribunal sent the personnel to jail, and they have been held at a sub-jail inside Dhaka Cantonment.
Earlier, he filed complaints with the tribunal against three army personnel, including a former army chief, for their alleged role in enforced disappearances during the Awami League regime. One of the personnel was later detained over similar accusations.
