The Bangladesh Bank (BB) has set a new agricultural credit disbursement target at Tk38,000 crore for the fiscal year 2024-25, up by 8.57% from previous fiscal year’s Tk35,000 crore.
BB Governor Ahsan H Mansur announced the new target during a press conference held at the central bank headquarters in the capital on Thursday, coinciding with the launching of the Agricultural and Rural Credit Policy and Programme for the financial year 2024-2025.
According to the newly released agricultural and rural policy, state-owned commercial and specialised banks have been tasked with disbursing Tk12,615 crore, while private and foreign commercial banks have been set a target of Tk25,385 crore for lending to agricultural and rural enterprises.
In the last fiscal year (2023-24), all scheduled commercial banks successfully disbursed Tk37,154 crore in agricultural and rural credit, surpassing the target by approximately 106.15%.
